Friday night was the kick-off for Cale’s five-year journey through the Lovett Legacy. Although this program is designed for me to guide Cale from boyhood into manhood, the entire thing began with Alissa.

Alissa took Cale to Lake Hefner on Friday evening. She had written him a letter explaining why she is so proud of him and the young man who is starting to emerge. After walking around the lake for a while, and sharing her letter with him, they had dinner at Hefner Grill, went bowling, went to Braum’s for some ice cream and just spent some time talking and having fun together.

The purpose of this Directional Dinner was for Alissa to explain to Cale that, although she will always be there for him, it is my role as his father to guide him and lead him through this next season of his life. Alissa was FAR more equipped than I to raise our little boys, nurture them, care for them, etc. But as someone who went through this stage of maturing from a boy to a man, I am more equipped than Alissa to lead him through adolescence.

I know this was not an easy thing for Alissa to do with Cale. She told me that she was afraid it was going to sound like she was breaking up with him. There were lots of laughs and tears that night. I have zero doubt that Cale loved this time with his mom, and that this dinner played an important role in setting the stage for The Lovett Legacy.
