Each month, I will assign Cale 1 challenge to complete. Additionally, Cale will choose one badge to earn from a list of 60 different options.

August Challenge : Cale’s August challenge is to do 750 push-ups and 750 sit-ups in the month of August. The kicker is that these must all be done before 8:00am. Starting this challenge on 8/5 means that he can do 30 per day for the rest of the month, as long as he doesn’t miss more than 2 days.

August Badge : The badge that Cale chose to earn this month is the Music Badge. He probably thinks this will be easy since he sings every Sunday and Wednesday at church, but I’m going to research community choirs in Edmond/OKC and really make him earn it! In order to earn this badge, Cale must complete and document each of the following:

1. Listen to at least 1 hour of 5 different musical styles (Gregorian chant, Madrigal, Renaissance mass, Baroque opera, Baroque oratorio, Baroque concerto, Lutheran Cantata, Classical era (Mozart, Beethoven, Joseph Haydn, Bach, Handel, Vivaldi), Romantic opera (Verdi, Wagner), Romantic symphony (Chopin, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, etc.),, Symphonic modernism (Debussy, Stravinsky, Schonberg), Blues, Gospel, Ragtime, New Orleans jazz, Chicago jazz, New York jazz, Swing, Bebop, Cool, Modal jazz, Bluegrass, Celtic, Western swing, Rockabilly, Funk, Rock, Hip-hop, Scottish folk music, Japanese folk music, Native American, Reggae)

2. Create a playlist of music that inspires you.

3. Sing a song or hymn from a music sheet with good melody, pitch, rhythm, and tone in front of another person.

4. Sing a song with two or more people. Let the others sing tenor while you sing bass.

5. Spend at least 24 hours participating in a church of community choir.
