Week One went about as smoothly as I could have hoped for. I think a big part of success and longevity with this program will be establishing a consistent routine. Cale and I started each morning at 6:15am by doing 30 pushups and 30 situps en route to the accomplishing the 750/750 challenge for the month of August. Afterwards, we would drink coffee and tea while reading through the story of Joseph together.
Week one focused on laying the foundation for the first shift: From Ease to Difficulty. We talked about Joseph’s life before he was sold into slavery. Joseph was loved deeply by his father and was shown favor over his brothers. Joseph was naïve and almost arrogant in telling his brothers about his dreams. All of these things led to conflict in Joseph’s life (the theme of week two). Joseph was about to be thrust from a life of ease into a life of difficulty.
After about a 20 minute study/discussion, we would pray together, and I would head to work. Some days Cale would go back to sleep, other days he would stay up. Overall, he was engaged and had a good attitude. He was grateful that he got to sleep in on Saturday! My guess is these early mornings will be a little bit easier for him when he has to get up early for school anyway. It will start to feel like a more natural part of his daily routine.
