The Difficulty Day for Shift Two was a full day of service. I had 8 envelopes which I gave Cale throughout the day. On the outside of each was a quote which tied in to the next task he was to complete.

Cale woke up at 7:45am on Saturday and made toast, sausage, eggs, and cinnamon toast for Mason, Emery and Alissa.

Cale and I left the house around 8:45am and picked up 30 sausage biscuits from McDonalds. We took the biscuits to downtown OKC and walked around handing them out to folks on the street. This led to some good conversations about homelessness, empathy, and seeing everyone as children of God.

We left downtown and drove the Emery’s basketball game. Cale sat on the bench with me and helped coach a bit. After the game, Cale and I went to eat lunch at Johnnies. We bought lunch for the couple behind us in line and talked about random acts of kindness.

After lunch, we drove to HopeHouse OKC where we washed and detailed the 3 vehicles which are used by that organization. We also delivered gifts to the 17 women who are currently going through the HHOKC program.

We left HopeHouse and drove to Grammie and Gramps house for a surprise visit. On the way home, Cale called Gran and Papa just to chat for a bit.

Once we made it home, we took Alissa’s car to get it washed, and found things to do around the house to lighten her load.

Finally, I gave Cale a bag with his own personalized stationary on it. His final task for the day was to write 5 notes to people in his life. These could be thank you notes, notes of encouragement, notes to friends, family, teachers, etc.

I also gave him his book for shift three, a bracelet for shift three, and a patch commemorating his completion of shift two. It was a great day of putting this shift into practice!
