Boys Control. Men Surrender. God will judge our choices. Over the next 10 weeks, Cale and I will be examining the life of King David.
We began our study by looking at King Saul, and the fact that he did NOT surrender fully to God. In I Samuel 15, Saul tries to stay in control while appearing obedient. God gives Saul clear instructions: destroy everything. But Saul selectively obeys, keeping the best livestock and sparing King Agag. Why? Because he wanted to manage the outcome, shape the command to fit his reasoning, and stay in control. He even tries to “spiritualize” his decision by saying he saved the animals to sacrifice to God.
But God doesn’t want controlled obedience—He wants complete surrender. God doesn’t want what we think is a good idea – He wants our trust that His way is the best way.
This story will obviously lead us straight to the rise of David.
