From Ease to Difficulty

Boys want a life of ease. Men are willing to embrace difficulty.

For the next 10 weeks, Cale and I will be studying the life of Joseph. Through this study, we’ll explore how Joseph navigated the many challenges in his life and how he consistently responded in ways that glorified God.

  • Self to Others: Week Five – Fighting for Others

Boys are passive. Men confront. “All it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing.” – Edmund Burke Over the past 15 weeks of Lovett Legacy, some mornings have dragged a bit. But not this week. This week was all about God (through Moses & Aaron) and Pharaoh going head to…

  • Self to Others: Week Four – Formed for Others

Boys flee. Men change. Before God really uses a man, he will form him into the right kind of man. He will humble him, change him, test him, get him ready, then call him. This week, we see the importance of becoming the right kind of man. We spent the week looking at how God…

  • November Badge/Challenge

Cale did really well with the knot-tying challenge in October. By the end of the month, he could tie the bowline, figure-eight follow through, and square knot with his eyes closed, and also taught Alissa how to successfully tie each one as well. The November challenge is to start each morning with a 10-minute yoga…

Boys ignore. Men see. In this week’s scripture, we read about Moses killing an Egyptian man who was mistreating Hebrew slaves. We discussed the importance of standing up for what is right, BUT doing so in a way that glorifies God. It’s really easy to get so caught up in our own lives, our own…

  • Self to Others: Week Two – Prepared for Others

Boys Play. Men learn. This week had a lot of big focal points. The scripture for the week was focused on Moses’ upbringing. We talked about big ideas like how to be a man in full, how to grow and mature, how to be powerful in speech and action, and how to be wise. It…

  • Self to Others: Week One – Born for a Purpose

We began shift two by looking at the story of baby Moses. We spent some time reflecting on the fact that the Israelites were only in Egypt because of Joseph being sold by his brothers, and eventually being elevated to a position of power. Cale enjoyed seeing how the two stories tied together. We focused…
