From Ease to Difficulty

Boys want a life of ease. Men are willing to embrace difficulty.

For the next 10 weeks, Cale and I will be studying the life of Joseph. Through this study, we’ll explore how Joseph navigated the many challenges in his life and how he consistently responded in ways that glorified God.

  • Ease to Difficulty: Week Ten – Legacy

Boys think short term. Men think long term. The final week of shift one centered around the idea of leaving a legacy. Every time you start a new chapter in life, you leave a legacy behind. We talked about the kind of legacy Cale wants to leave at Cimarron Middle School, Memorial High School, etc.…

  • Ease to Difficulty: Week Nine – Change

Boys cling. Men adjust. This week’s focus was focused on the appropriate way to handle change. Cale has had some big changes in his young life: Traveling in an RV for a year, re-acclimating to normal school, leaving his elementary school friends and the Edmond North pipeline to attend Cimarron Middle School, changing houses a…

  • October Badge/Challenge

Cale has always been an avid reader, so I knew the September challenge would be a piece of cake. We talked about conflict with friends, and the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation. Cale has a really solid group of friends, and there doesn’t seem to be much conflict, but there was one incident about a year ago which…

  • Ease to Difficulty: Week Seven – Responsibility

Boys avoid responsibility. Men accept responsibility. This week had the most practical lessons so far. Our discussions ranged from taking on more responsibilities at home (yardwork, home maintenance, etc.), taking responsibility for your actions (owning up to decisions you make), and being responsible by staying on top of school work, being on time for class,…

  • Ease to Difficulty: Week Six – Discernment

In times of uncertainty, boys panic, but men pray. This was a great week centered around the idea of discernment. When faced with a weighty decision, there are 4 forces at work to try and sort through: What does our culture/society want us to do? What do we want to do? What does Satan want…
